Jon Measures, Fine Artist, Graphic Design & Illustrator

Jon Measures is a professional Fine Artist, Graphic Designer, Illustrator and is currently a professor at Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, CA. Jon is also a professor at other CA Colleges.

He started to exhibiting extensively in Los Angeles since 2006, by showing a series urban landscapes at The Harmony Gallery in Hollywood as framed digital prints.  His art work is extremely unique and refreshing look into urban landscapes in CA, which interests me of urban sketching and photographic inspirations.

Jon developed his own approach to making mixed media artwork that often combine multiple views of Los Angeles and other urban areas, slicing and dicing bits of the city’s rich fabric together. The images are digitally edited photographs, printed then made in to collages that are then further worked as paintings. Paint is used to stylize or emphasize aspects of the photographic materials, to add texture, layering and color. The layering is an important aspect to the work both in the computer and on the physical artworks. This process is a hybrid between painting, photography, digital art and collage and echoes the layering of history that takes place in cities.

Jon explores our environment that show the structures, infrastructures and scars of human development. He is fascinated by the American West. The freeways, power plants, gas stations and fast food restaurants on the side of the road heading out to the desert or up the coast of California are at once so familiar and at the same time so alien. The systems and infrastructure that support our current unsustainable way of life; power lines, gasoline, cars are all rich in visual interest and powerful metaphors for our current way of life.  Jon has found a source of inspiration to his fine art, which is often ignored by all commuters in vehicles, who are too busy to get from point A to point B, without ever looking outside beyond the vehicles windshield.

One page view into Jon's Galleries:
Jon shows his archived art on the Gallery tab of his website, which is a long extended one page view of his art.  Overall his website is easy to maneuver through the different tabs to see his cubicism fine art and other styles that reflect his graphic design, illustrator and fine art.

Enjoy his art and I recommend taking his college courses on Adobe Illustrator!

Tree Amour - Blog Website

http://www.treeamour.com
is the blog of San Francisco based graphic designer Crystal Adams.
As an enthusiastic advocate for trees, Crystal shares her love of trees with daily photography and graphic snapshots.

This new blog has beautiful photographs of trees found in the San Francisco area. Who knew there were so many varieties in just one area, such as:

  • Chinese Elm
  • Willow trees Sausalito, at the Golden State Park, CA
  • Oak Forest tree, at the Descano Gardens, La Canada, in Flintridge,CA
  • Sycamores !
  • Strawberry trees
  • and more trees to come!
Crystal Adams is a Graphic Designer and photographer, who is capturing beautiful photographs to share to her viewers each week, with comments of a recent plan for renovations of South Park, San Francisco, CA.

"The South Park trees in San Francisco creates a serene small green haven from the bustling city nested between 2nd and 3rd Street in SOMA. The  new $3.5 million renovation plan calls for "widened concrete pathways, large open meadows, plazas, bulb-out sidewalk extensions, low concrete retaining walls with benches, and raised grass platforms for sitting or picnicking. Trees in poor condition would be replaced and new irrigation and lights installed. A single kids’ play area would replace the two dilapidated ones."

Its great to hear of city builders considering the need, and beauty that trees give us, especially the air we breathe, and who are not destroying the parks to make way for commercial construction.

The blog is nicely arranged with beautiful perspective photos of trees including likes, and at the end of the blog the reader is invited to join the "Canopy Love + News" email to receive monthly updates.

Enjoy our trees!

 Aaron and Elephant

Aaron Blaise loves drawing and painting animals! From an artistic perspective, animals and nature in general were the first things he started drawing. He remembers sitting in the garage with my father as a little six year old drawing pictures of the ducks in his field guide books as he carved his decoys. By age seven he knew most every species of duck in North America. Later when he  moved to Florida he fell in love with the wildness of the state. Aaron lived in a little trailer out just north of the Everglades near Corkscrew Swamp which was his wilderness paradise. During most of his youth he was drawing, painting, tracking and photographing the wildlife in and around our area. He always had his sketchbooks and paints and just couldn’t get enough of it.
He graduated from the Ringling College of Art with a certificate in Illustration in 1989 and was hired by Walt Disney Feature Animation where he worked for 21 years helping to create some of the greatest animated films ever made. He worked as an animator or supervising animator on “The Rescuers Down Under”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, “The Lion King”, “Pocahontas”, “Mulan” and I was co-director of “Brother Bear” of which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. Since “Brother Bear” he  helped to develop several projects but ultimately left Disney to pursue an opportunity back home in Florida to help start up a new animation studio called Tradition Studios. During the two and a half year life that the studio had they developed several feature film ideas. But it was a film about a little African Elephant that took root. It was called “The Legend of Tembo” and it was shaping up to become a beautiful story and visually stunning film. Like many start ups though, the company he worked for ran out of funds, went bankrupt, and he found myself without a job.
The loss of my job as an animation director though has been shaping up to become one of the greatest opportunities of his life. After reviving his painting career and launched his new website, he was ready to see what the future might hold.
Creating images of the amazing creatures that we share our Earth with is his greatest pleasure he coped for  in a career.

The Art of Aaron Blaise also provides an email newsletter that sends out emails of his latest designs and tutorials available at reasonable packaged prices!   Enjoy his art and take advantage of the tutorials!

Janek Sedlar - Photography

Janek Sedlar - Photography

https://500px.com/janeksedlar

 Biography

Janek Sedlar was born in 1987 in Southern Moravia, Czech Republic. His hometown Lipov is a small village in the White Carpathian Mountains, in an area called Hornácko. The region features many places, where cultural remains of our ancestors have been preserved. These places, where nature mixes with ancient culture, were the playgrounds of Janek’s childhood. They are the settings of the most beautiful memories of his early years, a time of freedom spent mainly outdoors with his brother and cousin. Their games were witnessed by the pure presence of nature. From these early experiences stems his connection and close relationship with his surroundings, where his happy childhood is eternally present. Today Janek spends long hours in the White Carpathians, exploring and trying to capture his favourite places in all their different moods.
Janek Sedlar’s inspiration is unmistakeable. It is nature in all its untamed moods, from awe-inspiring mystery to the warm embrace of familiarity. It is nature, who invites him in as a witness, sharing its secrets hidden by misty veils or present in the golden glow of glorious sunshine. Aware of the fact, that the beholder of his photography will not be able to share in the intense experience of nature’s presence, he tries to convey as much of it as he can through his images. Mindfulness of the natural moods appears in his empathic use of editing processes in which he concentrates on a visual translation of those elements which are at first absent in the plane of the image, making scents, movement, and sounds appear in hues defying the traditional concept of reality. Janek’s photographic art comes from the heart and should be seen with the heart. The genius loci will make itself freely available to those open to see it.

Justin M. Maller, Australian Designer - One Page Website

Justin M. Maller, Australian Designer

This Australian designer's portfolio site keeps things simple while displaying his artwork on a single page as a wallpaper at a glance. His art is vibrant. The website goes straight to his artwork, with the a nice little gradient at the bottom of the main index window, subtly fading everything in as it scrolls up through the work.

As the mouse hovers over a art piece square, it changes color with a trans placement, and then you can click on the square to take you to that art piece.

As you go through each artwork, it allows you to scroll down to see other variations of the same work, or zoom in close ups selections of the same piece.   There are navigation arrows to both sides of the works to allow you to go to the next display.

At the top of each selected artwork, additional information is provided on the artwork, such as :
Title Name (of the art) \ A brief description of the art \ Client: (name of client or "personal") \ Date

Although he uses a black background to all of his brilliant artworks, I can imagine if I were to adapt this style to one of my portfolio selections, I could decide on a background color that would best suit my art and designs.
